…Gurschner war in den späten 20er und 30er Jahren Teil der Gesellschaft, die er malte. Er nahm an ihren Parties teil, machte Urlaub an der Cote d’Azur, jetete zwischen Europa und den USA. Zugleich blieb ihm seine Tiroler Herkunft wichtig, dachte er über das „einfache Leben“ der Bergbauern nach und hegte religiöse Interessen. Das Aufeinanderprallen dieser verschiedenen Welten ist auch im Werk Gurschners spürbar, eines Künstlers, in dem „mehrere eifersüchtig miteinander hadernde Seelen“ wohnten.

AUTHOR\'S OFFPRINT OF HILBERT\'S MAJOR PAPER ON INFINITY. A vocal advocate of axiomatic method in mathematics, Hilbert is perhaps best known to the general public for the famous \"List\" he put forth in 1900, which challenged the mathematics community to find the solution of 23 long-standing unsolved problems. In the present paper, Hilbert sets out his philosophy of the infinite and attempts to prove the Continuum Problem. He critically examines Cantor\'s theory of Transfinite Numbers in the process and affirms Cantor\'s theory of Transfinite Numbers to be \"the finest product of mathematical genius\" – Hilbert here famously declaring that \"No one will drive us from the paradise which Cantor created for us!\"

EARLY ISSUE OF THE JOST AMMAN EDITION OF PARACELSUS\'S WORKS. Philippus Aureolus Theophrastus Bombastus von Hohenheim, who wrote under the pen name Paracelsus, was a Renaissance pioneer of medicine as well as an astronomer and alchemist. A native of Switzerland, he was educated in Basel, Vienna, and Ferrara, and traveled extensively throughout Europe during his life as an itinerant physician. He is credited with establishing the role of chemistry in medicine, and is sometimes referred to as the \"father of toxicology.\" He recorded the first clinical descriptions of syphilis and epilepsy, and advocated the humane treatment of the mentally ill in an era when they were believed to be possessed by demons. His controversial views alienated both publishers and other physicians, and many of the ideas he proposed were not accepted as medical orthodoxy until hundreds of years after his death.
