Provenance: R.D. Combe (ink stamp to front matter).

This eighteenth-century astrological manuscript contains information on astrology including tables and zodiacal charcts, as well as palmistry. There are 14 working handcut volvelles throughout, while on numerous others the inner wheel is no longer present.

Rebacked 18th century gilt-ruled calf, spine gilt-ruled with 5 raised bands, titled in gilt. Joints cracking, edges and corners rubbed, scattered foxing and spotting, one insect plate with repaired tear into center of image.

Contains sixteen plates engraved by Wenceslas Hollar after drawings by Barlow. Francis Barlow was a prolific illustrator and artist, particularly known for his scenes of nature and hunting.

More than colors I have always loved the way they match, as well as the light they give off. Even my white-black phase was a period of light, this contrast, just like in my mother’s saltworks in Trapani, a truly blinding sort of light.

When I used red with green, and sometimes even pink with light blue, the two colors had to have the same strength and couldn’t be complementary.
This way they struggle against one other and create light.

FIRST EDITION, eventually completed with the posthumous publication of the second edition in 1735. Often believed to have been used as a resource by Goethe during the writing of Faust, this treatise on alchemy, cosmology, and necromancy expands beyond the transmutation of metals (considered to be the primary focus of alchemy), into a complete philosophical-cosmological system, based on the Kabbalah. It also influenced the ideas of the Rosicrucian movement and the American Society of Harmony, founded by Georg Rapp in 1805.

EARLY ISSUE OF THE JOST AMMAN EDITION OF PARACELSUS\'S WORKS. Philippus Aureolus Theophrastus Bombastus von Hohenheim, who wrote under the pen name Paracelsus, was a Renaissance pioneer of medicine as well as an astronomer and alchemist. A native of Switzerland, he was educated in Basel, Vienna, and Ferrara, and traveled extensively throughout Europe during his life as an itinerant physician. He is credited with establishing the role of chemistry in medicine, and is sometimes referred to as the \"father of toxicology.\" He recorded the first clinical descriptions of syphilis and epilepsy, and advocated the humane treatment of the mentally ill in an era when they were believed to be possessed by demons. His controversial views alienated both publishers and other physicians, and many of the ideas he proposed were not accepted as medical orthodoxy until hundreds of years after his death. Front blank heavily browned and chipped, corners chipped on first several leaves, browning and spotting throughout.

Fifth edition, \"Corrected and Amended.\" Wilkins\' bold assertions in his various editions of this book include the possibility that the moon might be inhabited, that humans might be able to find a way to travel there, and that the Earth might indeed be a planet. An Anglican clergyman and Bishop of Chester, Wilkins was a visionary polymath who served as both Warden of Wadham College, Oxford, and Master of Trinity College, Cambridge. He remained well-respected in science and the clergy, despite his sometimes controversial writings. In addition to writing on mathematics, religious philosophy, and astronomy, he proposed a universal language, and a universal system of measurement that predated the metric system. FIRST EDITION. The authors sculpted detailed models of the lunar surface as observed through telescopes, and then photographed them to create images of the moon that could not otherwise be taken using existing techniques of telescopic photography at the time. Truthful Lens 125.

Yes, in the sense that a painting actually always develops out of a proliferation and growth and evolutionary process and in the sense that every result cries out for a new one, so to speak, or generates something new. This always plays itself out in various ways. In principle, it has something to do with the phenomena that can be experienced in painting. This global issue results from the fact that I have found painting to be something that creates identity and meaning. You get to know yourself and express yourself and enter into a process where you are not only passively at the mercy of others, but can also achieve a lot on a creative level.

Ja, in diesem Sinne, daß sich ein Bild eigentlich immer aus einem Wuchern und Wachsen und evolutionären Prozeß heraus entwickelt und sozusagen jedes Ergebnis nach einem neuen schreit oder etwas Neues generiert. Das spielt sich immer in Variationen durch und hat grundsätzlich etwas mit Phänomenen zu tun, die in der Malerei erfahrbar sind. Dieses Weltthema resultiert daher, daß ich Malerei als etwas Identitäts- und Sinnstiftendes empfunden habe. Man lernt sich da kennen und ausdrücken und begibt sich in einen Prozeß, wo man nicht nur passiv ausgeliefert ist, sondern auch gestalterisch eine Menge bewirken kann.

EARLY ISSUE OF THE JOST AMMAN EDITION OF PARACELSUS\'S WORKS. Philippus Aureolus Theophrastus Bombastus von Hohenheim, who wrote under the pen name Paracelsus, was a Renaissance pioneer of medicine as well as an astronomer and alchemist. A native of Switzerland, he was educated in Basel, Vienna, and Ferrara, and traveled extensively throughout Europe during his life as an itinerant physician. He is credited with establishing the role of chemistry in medicine, and is sometimes referred to as the \"father of toxicology.\" He recorded the first clinical descriptions of syphilis and epilepsy, and advocated the humane treatment of the mentally ill in an era when they were believed to be possessed by demons. His controversial views alienated both publishers and other physicians, and many of the ideas he proposed were not accepted as medical orthodoxy until hundreds of years after his death. 1. WILKINS, JOHN. 1614-1672. A Discovery of a New World ... \'tis Probable there may be another Habitable World in the Moon London: J. Rawlins for John Gellibrand, 1684. 2 parts in 1 volume. 8vo (172 x 112 mm). Woodcut illustrations in text. Modern calf. Front blank heavily browned and chipped, corners chipped on first several leaves, browning and spotting throughout.

Fifth edition, \"Corrected and Amended.\" Wilkins\' bold assertions in his various editions of this book include the possibility that the moon might be inhabited, that humans might be able to find a way to travel there, and that the Earth might indeed be a planet. An Anglican clergyman and Bishop of Chester, Wilkins was a visionary polymath who served as both Warden of Wadham College, Oxford, and Master of Trinity College, Cambridge. He remained well-respected in science and the clergy, despite his sometimes controversial writings. In addition to writing on mathematics, religious philosophy, and astronomy, he proposed a universal language, and a universal system of measurement that predated the metric system. Lithographic frontispiece, and 23 plates. Publisher\'s blue cloth, rebacked retaining original spine and covers. Shaken, corners and edges bumped, slight warping to pages, fingermarks and spotting.

FIRST EDITION. The authors sculpted detailed models of the lunar surface as observed through telescopes, and then photographed them to create images of the moon that could not otherwise be taken using existing techniques of telescopic photography at the time. Truthful Lens 125.

Yes, in the sense that a painting actually always develops out of a proliferation and growth and evolutionary process and in the sense that every result cries out for a new one, so to speak, or generates something new. This always plays itself out in various ways. In principle, it has something to do with the phenomena that can be experienced in painting. This global issue results from the fact that I have found painting to be something that creates identity and meaning. You get to know yourself and express yourself and enter into a process where you are not only passively at the mercy of others, but can also achieve a lot on a creative level.

Ja, in diesem Sinne, daß sich ein Bild eigentlich immer aus einem Wuchern und Wachsen und evolutionären Prozeß heraus entwickelt und sozusagen jedes Ergebnis nach einem neuen schreit oder etwas Neues generiert. Das spielt sich immer in Variationen durch und hat grundsätzlich etwas mit Phänomenen zu tun, die in der Malerei erfahrbar sind. Dieses Weltthema resultiert daher, daß ich Malerei als etwas Identitäts- und Sinnstiftendes empfunden habe. Man lernt sich da kennen und ausdrücken und begibt sich in einen Prozeß, wo man nicht nur passiv ausgeliefert ist, sondern auch gestalterisch eine Menge bewirken kann.
