Die Tarantella ist ein Volkstanz, der sich durch seine typischen leichtfüßigen und schnellen Sprüngen und Drehungen auszeichnet. Thomas Uwins lebt von 1824 bis 1831 in Italien und spezialisierte sich in der Darstellung bäuerlicher Szenen. Das Model für das Kind war seine Nichte. Der Golf von Salerno ist im Hintergrund. Ein kleinere Version besitzt das Victoria &amp; Albert Museum in London.an>
