兰花,1885-1895-马丁·约翰逊·海德

-Although he may be best known as a landscape painter of New England salt marshes, some of Heade\'s finest works are his sensuous still-lifes of magnolia flowers. After moving to Florida in 1883, Heade became captivated by the Magnolia grandiflora blossoms that were abundant there. This painting depicts a large, voluptuous, highly detailed, and unblemished flower carefully arranged upon a drape of lush red velvet. The creamy white petals have a fleshy quality that appears in stark contrast to the plush velvet and dark green glossy leaves surrounding the flower. Heade is known to have made detailed oil sketches of magnolia blossoms: he used these to paint this subject again and again-sometimes with two or more blossoms, sometimes rearranging the foliage, or setting it against a different surface, but always focusing on the exquisite beauty of the plant.
